Buccal Abscess Caused by Toothbrush Trauma: A Case Report of a Two-Year-Old

Children often experience impalement trauma when they fall while holding objects in their mouths. While most cases heal without complications, here we report a case of buccal abscess formation after toothbrush trauma. A two-year-old boy fell running with his mouth, which punctured right mucosa. The following day, he presented to pediatrician fever and swelling was treated oral antibiotics. However, the did not improve, patient referred our department. Four days visit, worsened, requiring hospitalization, intravenous antibiotics, drainage. inflammation quickly disappeared treatment, no recurrence. Prophylactic antibiotic administration for is controversial. Our results suggest that prophylactic antibiotics covering both anaerobic aerobic bacteria are necessary toothbrush-related trauma, where multiple bacterial infections may occur.
